Vol. 411 No. 2

Written Answers. - Appointment of School Secretary.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

74 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education if she is prepared to appoint a secretary to the Convent primary school, Maynooth, County Kildare, now or in 1992; if her attention has been drawn to the urgent need for the provision of a secretary at the school in view of the large number of pupils; if the necessary finance is or will be available to meet such a provision; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Under the terms of the Programme for Economic and Social Progress it is proposed to provide grant support for an increased number of secretaries in schools. My Department are currently considering the details for such a scheme.

I am not yet in a position to identify which schools might be grant aided until the scheme becomes operational.
