Vol. 411 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Kildare Secondary School.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

75 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the need for the provision of extra facilities at St. Wolstan's Holy Faith secondary school, Celbridge, County Kildare; if she will outline the extent, if any, to which she expects to be in a position to respond positively to these requests in the current year or in 1992; if sufficient finance is available now or will be provided for in the 1992 Estimates to meet the urgent demand for permanent school buildings, to meet the enrolment at St. Wolstan's; if she is conscious that Celbridge has been identified as the second fastest population growth area in the country; if she intends to respond in order to meet the public requirements of the area in the near future; when she expects work to commence on the provision of these facilities; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to his Question No. 92 of 23 May 1991 in which I stated:

I am aware that the number in the Celbridge area seeking post-primary education is set to increase in the short term.

My Department have held several meetings with the authorities of St. Wolstan's Holy Faith secondary school, Celbridge, to discuss the provision of post-primary education in the area. These discussions are ongoing. My Department are also carrying out a major review of the centre to determine short, medium and long term post-primary requirements and how best the needs of the area can be met. The position remains unchanged.
