Vol. 411 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Kildare School Facilities.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

82 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education the total number of children currently attending Scoil Uí Dhálaigh, Leixlip, County Kildare; the total present class accommodation; the extent of the facilities required and planned for the school at present; whether funds are available now or will be provided for in the 1992 Estimates to provide further facilities required; if her attention has been drawn to the urgent need to meet these requirements in the near future; if she will outline the current development stage in the process for the provision of the facilities required; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The enrolments at Scoil Uí Dhalaigh, Leixlip, County Kildare, on 30 September 1990 were 328. The accommodation at the school consists of five permanent classrooms which were substantially improved this year, a staff-room, a principal's office and seven prefabricated classrooms. As I have indicated to the Deputy in my replies to his earlier parliamentary questions, I have approved a permanent extension of eight classrooms and some ancillary accommodation at the school. The tenders received for the project have been submitted to my Department by the school's consultants and these have been examined. The question of the placing of the contract is now being considered in the context of the budgetary position and a decision will be conveyed to the school authorities at the earliest possible date.
