Vol. 411 No. 6

Written Answers. - Ambulance Service.

Gerry O'Sullivan

Question:

28 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the need for a proper ambulance service, equipped with cardiac equipment and training in the Cork area; if he has discussed any such proposals with the Southern Health Board; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The provision of ambulance services in the Southern Health Board region is a matter for the Southern Health Board in the first instance.

I have recently instructed my Department to undertake, together with the health boards, a major review of the organisation, management and co-ordination of the ambulance service. Among the main areas covered by this review will be the provision of cardiac ambulance services.

It would be intended that the recommendations of the review group in relation to the provision of these services would be taken into account by the health boards when considering any future developments in this area.
