Vol. 411 No. 6

Written Answers. - Kidney Dialysis Unit.

Jim Higgins

Question:

50 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Health if he is prepared to make the necessary finance available for the provision of a kidney dialysis unit at the General Hospital, Castlebar, County Mayo, in view of the fact that voluntary efforts have already raised £140,000 towards the cost; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have already indicated to the Western Health Board my agreement in principle to the establishment of a satellite dialysis unit at Castlebar General Hospital. The funding of this unit is a matter for the board, having regard to their priority in relation to other service developments within the health board area and the total resources available to the board.
