Vol. 411 No. 6

Written Answers. - Education Grant.

Edward Nealon

Question:

126 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Education if, in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Sligo who is pursuing studies for a diploma in chiropody at the College of Technology, Belfast, her Department will now consider reviewing their decision by which he was declared ineligible for a higher education grant in view of the fact that the course he is pursuing is recognised by the Department of Health for the purposes of securing employment in this particular field and in view of the fact that no such similar course is available in the approved institutes of higher education in this State.

I refer the Deputy to my reply of 30 January 1990 to Questions Nos. 445 and 446 and in particular to the final paragraph therein. The re-examination referred to of the diploma in chiropody has not yet been completed but I am arranging for the outstanding matters to be expedited, and I shall inform the Deputy of the outcome as soon as possible.
