Vol. 411 No. 7

Written Answers. - Career Breaks for School Secretaries.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

187 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Education if, in relation to school secretaries who wish to avail of career breaks, she will indicate whether her Department (a) have concluded an agreement with IMPACT under which schools which sanction such career breaks can recruit replacement secretaries for the duration of the career break periods (b) whether such an agreement is under negotiation between her Department and IMPACT and if so when such an agreement will be concluded and (c) whether sanction has been given by her Department to any school to recruit a replacement secretary for the duration of a career break period and, if so, if she will name the schools and the basis on which such sanction was given; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

An agreement on this matter has not been reached. My Department have not given sanction to any school to permit a replacement clerk-typist in a career break situation.

However, my Department have been in touch with IMPACT regarding negotiations on this particular matter. I will be pleased to keep the Deputy informed of developments.
