Vol. 411 No. 7

Written Answers. - Teacher Training Colleges Entrants.

Tomás MacGiolla

Question:

216 Tomás Mac Giolla asked the Minister for Education the total number of entrants to teacher training colleges for this year and for each year since 1980, tabulated by (a) male and (b) female entrants and whether her Department have considered the implications of the male/female imbalance in national school teaching.

The information requested by the Deputy is given in the form of a table which I propose to circulate in the Official Report.

Final details of the entrants to the Colleges of Education this year will not be available until after 1 November; I will arrange to have the information sent to the Deputy as soon as possible thereafter.

My Department is examining all implications of the male-female imbalance in national school teaching, including that of the ratio of female-male principalship posts.
