219 Tomás Mac Giolla asked the Minister for Education if she will give details of the provision in this school year, and the projected provision next year, for the in-service training of second level teachers in the light of curricular changes.
The records of my Department of the financial provisions for in-service training of teachers are maintained on the basis of the financial year rather than the school year. A sum of £750,000 has been provided in 1991 for courses for second-level teachers. Most of the provision for this purpose is used in areas of curricular change, especially the new junior certificate programme. The financial provision to be made in 1992 for in-service courses for second level teachers will be determined in the context of the 1992 Estimates.
