Vol. 411 No. 7

Written Answers. - Castlerea (County Roscommon) School.

John Connor

Question:

41 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for Education the present position in relation to the proposed new second level school at Castlerea in County Roscommon; and if she will confirm that the undertaking to commence building of the project before the end of 1991 will now be kept.

Due to difficulties outside the Department's control progress on submission of the preliminary tender report has been slow due to difficulties which arose in determining the capacity of the lowest tender for the main contract to undertake the project. This necessitated considerable exploring by the design team in order to ascertain whether the lowest tender could secure a guarantee of a bond. In the event, the company were unable to secure a bond and they subsequently withdrew from the project.

On 9 October 1991 the Department conveyed approval to the design team to proceed to an examination of the next lowest tender. My Department are now awaiting the design team's report and recommendations.
