Vol. 411 No. 8

Written Answers. - Defence Force Duties.

Seán Ryan

Question:

112 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Defence the number of Reserve personnel who have been exercised this year in the monitoring of radiation levels; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Five hundred and eighty members of the FCA were involved in the last national exercise, held in October 1990, to monitor levels of radiation in the country. In October 1991, Permanent Defence Force cadres with the FCA were exercised in monitoring background radiation levels at 18 locations nationwide. These exercises were carried out under the supervision of the Observer Corps.

Members of the FCA were not exercised in 1991 in monitoring radiation levels.
