Vol. 412 No. 1

Written Answers. - Remedial Teacher Appointment.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

143 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Education if she has received a request from the boards of management and parents' associations of schools (details supplied) in County Meath requesting the appointment of a remedial teacher to cover the schools; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I have received a request for a remedial teacher from the schools in question. As the Deputy will be aware, 80 additional posts serving over 240 schools were allocated this year under arrangements under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress. These appointments were made following the collection of data and information by my Department's primary inspectorate from schools. The posts were then allocated on the basis of priority of need, as indicated by the information collected by the inspectorate.

The needs of the schools mentioned and other schools will be kept under review.
