Vol. 412 No. 1

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Dermot Ahern — the implications of the findings of a Revenue Commissioners' report on the effect of the Single Market on Staffing levels in the Customs and Excise Service particularly in the Border areas; (2) Deputy Eric Byrne — the need to maintain the Dublin - Galway railway line; (3) Deputy Eamon Gilmore — the continuing refusal by the prison authorities to allow a prisoner at the training unit, Glengarriff Parade, Dublin, to attend an interview for a FÁS training course; (4) Deputy Pat Rabbitte — the urgent matter of the construction of the Tallaght Regional Hospital; (5) Deputy Proinsias De Rossa — the implications for staff in the Customs and Excise Service on the completion of the internal EC market and the effects on 1,600 jobs of customs clearance agents and their staff and on the loss of 600 jobs in the Customs and Excise Service; (6) Deputy Roger Garland — the reported remarks made by a Circuit Court judge as quoted in a media report today regarding speed limits and (7) Deputy Jimmy Deenihan — the crisis in Tralee General Hospital, County Kerry because of the cut back in staffing levels resulting in the closure of beds and the withdrawal of essential services.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by Deputies Dermot Ahern, Deenihan and Rabbitte.
