Question:

156 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Education if, in the plans for the new school at Ballytivnan, Sligo, to replace St. Edward's School, Forthill, her Department have sanctioned eight classrooms plus a general purpose room; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose taking Questions Nos. 155 and 156 together.

The preparation of tender documents for the proposed new national school at Ballytivnan, Sligo, is in hands and these will be completed at the earliest possible date. The question of the invitation of tenders for the project will then arise for consideration in the context of the 1992 budget and a decision will be conveyed to the school authorities.

The brief for the new school includes a standard classroom for each of the eight teachers but one will be the size of a general purposes room. The architectural planning for the project has proceeded on this basis following much consultation with the school authorities.
