Vol. 412 No. 1

Written Answers. - Ballymun School Development.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

158 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Education if she will outline the plans which exist for the development of Ballymun Senior Comprehensive School in Dublin 11; the current status of the discussions on the proposed merger of the three schools in the Ballymun area; if she will outline her views on the retention of the Senior Comprehensive as a separate school; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

These are three comprehensive schools in Ballymun — junior boys, junior girls and co-educational senior school and these three schools are managed by a single board. My Department have been in communication with the board regarding the more effective educational use of the three school buildings.

At a recent meeting with the staff and representatives of the parents, I had a full discussion on all aspects of the educational needs including the community education requirements of the Ballymun area. The matter of the reorganisation of the schools is being reviewed in the light of this discussion.
