Question:

173 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Defence the nature of the Sir Alfred Chester Beatty bequest to the Defence Forces; the date and current location of the collection; if he will give details of the access to it by the public; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Chester Beatty offered in 1951 to the Defence Forces a collection of 143 items of a military nature including fire arms, bladed weapons, daggers, knives, axes, spear heads, maces, clubs and bows. The offer was accepted in 1952 and the items are currently located at the museum in the Military College, Curragh Camp.

Access by members of the public can be arranged by contacting the Commandant, Military College, Curragh Camp.
