Vol. 412 No. 1

Written Answers. - State Board Appointment.

Ivan Yates

Question:

175 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications whether, in the light of the recent controversies involving State sponsored bodies, a senior civil servant or qualified chartered accountant has been appointed to the board of commercial State bodies under the aegis of his Department.

All of the boards of commercial State-sponsored bodies under the aegis of my Department, with the exception of An Post and RTE, have a member who is either a qualified chartered or certified accountant. There are no senior civil servants on the boards of any of these bodies.

As vacancies arise, I will give consideration to the need for the appointment of qualified accountants and/or civil servants to the boards of these bodies.
