Vol. 412 No. 1

Written Answers. - Funding for AIDS Patients.

Ivor Callely

Question:

134 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the total budget allocated to AIDS and associated AIDS needs in 1990; if he will give a breakdown of the cost into (1) hospitalisation of AIDS patients, of medication, (2) diagnosis and (3) social workers; and if he will outline the expected costs in 1991.

Funding in respect of the care, management and treatment of persons suffering from AIDS and HIV, including the costs of hospitalisation, medication, diagnosis and social workers, is provided as part of health services funding generally, and is not readily indentifiable. We have contacted the agencies concerned with a view to getting detailed costings and I will write to the Deputy as soon as possible.
