I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Mattie Brennan — The issue of five permanent forestry employees, some of whom have been working in forestry for over 20 years, at Benbulben Forest, North Sligo being laid-off temporarily; (2) Deputy Nora Owen — Assistance for the people affected by Typhoon Thelma in the Philippines; (3) Deputy Seán Barrett — The subject matter of Question No. 87 of 5 November 1991 to the Minister for Social Welfare regarding unemployment benefit for an individual; (4) Deputy Nuala Fennell — If the Minister for Health will take steps to reduce the incidence of cot deaths here by promoting the four point plan which has been effectively tested in New Zealand and Holland and put to him by the Irish Sudden Infant Death Association; (5) Deputy Charles Flanagan — The commitment given by the Minister for Agriculture and Food in February 1991, in relation to the designation of part of Slieve Bloom as an environmentally sensitive area and the failure of the Minister to implement this scheme as promised; (6) Deputy Bernard Allen — The imminent closure of Western Digital at Dublin Hill, Cork, with the loss of up to 240 jobs; (7) Deputy Pat McCartan — The case of a Liberian national in prison custody here since 25 June 1991 and the need for the Minister for Justice to release him from detention; (8) Deputy Proinsias De Rossa — The refusal of the Burmese Government to release from House arrest Aung Suu Ky, the leader of the victorious National League for Democracy in the most recent elections in the country, to leave Burma to collect the Nobel Prize which she has been awarded; (9) Deputy Seán Ryan — The current crisis in public transport throughout the country, particularly in the rail sector, which has its origins in the lack of capital investment by the Government for replacement of tracks, electrification of signals and replacement of carriages and locomotives; and (10) Deputy Gerry O' Sullivan — The loss of 240 jobs this week at the Western Digital Plant in Cork. I have selected for discussion the matters raised by Deputies De Rossa, Allen and Fennell.
