Vol. 412 No. 5

Written Answers. - Structural Funds.

Andrew Boylan

Question:

47 Mr. Boylan asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the importance of Structural Funds to this country and the great need for improvement in our road structure countrywide, he will outline the reason the Government have, to date, not taken up the full allocation of such Structural Funds available from the EC; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Ireland will take up its full share of structural funding under the reformed Structural Funds for the period 1989-1993. Implementation of the Community Support Framework, the main vehicle of aid to Ireland, is broadly on target.

With specific reference to road development in Ireland, the Peripherality Operational Programme contains the EC allocation of aids for roads and other transport infrastructure in the period 1989 to 1993. Approved regional fund commitments to Ireland under the programme are as follows in 1990 prices:

1989

1990

1991

1992

1993

The roads element of this operational programme is on target and I am fully confident that all resources granted will be fully utilised and in accordance with schedule.
