Vol. 412 No. 5

Written Answers. - Mullaghmore (Clare) Project.

Madeleine Taylor-Quinn

Question:

50 Mrs. Taylor-Quinn asked the Minister for Finance (1) when he expects the Environmental Impact Assessment on the Mullaghmore project to be completed (2) the reason for the delay in commissioning the study and (3) if the future of the project is now in jeopardy.

There has been no delay in commissioning the EIA for the Burren and it will be available for public comment before the end of the year. Should the environmental impact statement conclude that the project will involve significant adverse environmental impacts which cannot be mitigated, the scheme will of course be abandoned.

I am confident however that the sensitive plans of the Office of Public Works for this project and indeed for the other interpretative centres will be vindicated by the consultants' reports and that the schemes will proceed but we must await the consultants' findings.
