Vol. 412 No. 5

Written Answers. - Crosshaven (Cork) Pier.

Peter Barry

Question:

86 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for the Marine if an EC grant has been made for the re-building of Crosshaven pier; and if so, if he will outline (a) the amount of the grant, (b) whether matching Government moneys are required, (c) if a contract will be sought from either Cork County Council, Cork Harbour Commissioners or a private contractor to do this work, (d) when the work will commence and (e) when it is estimated that the work will be completed.

The proposed works at Crosshaven are included in my Department's fishery harbours development programme, which covers the period 1989-93. This programme was submitted to the EC under the operational programme for rural development, which was approved last December. Under the programme, Structural Fund assistance of £7.5 million is available for the development of fishery harbours in the period 1991-93. The level of aid is 50 per cent.

Pending the completion of a site investigation and survey work, it is not possible to say who will be charged with carrying out the physical work at Crosshaven pier or indeed when this work will commence.
