Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to the Ceann Comhairle under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Seán Ryan — The current crisis in public transport throughout the country, paticularly in the rail sector, which has its origins in the lack of capital investment by the Government for replacement of tracks, electrification of signals and replacement of carriages and locomotives; (2) Deputy Seán Barrett — The subject matter of Question No. 87 of 5 November 1991 to the Minister for Social Welfare regarding unemployment benefit for an individual; (3) Deputy Alan Dukes — The promised extension of classroom facilities at Meánscoil lognáid Rís, Naas, County Kildare; (4) Deputy Pat Lee — The current crisis in private nursing home accommodation in Dublin for elderly patients, due to inadequate and improper funding by the Minister for Health; (5) Deputy John Ellis — the up-to-date position in connection with defective chimneys in the Cranmore Housing estate in Sligo; (6) Deputy Jim Higgins — The need to improve the transport arrangements for pupils attending Ballyhaunis Community School, County Mayo; (7) Deputy Michael D. Higgins — The present position in relation to the reopening of the post office in Dominick Street in Galway City; (8) Deputy Charles Flanagan — The commitment given by the Minister for Agriculture and Food in February 1991, in relation to the designation of part of Slieve Bloom as an environmentally sensitive area and the failure of the Minister to implement this scheme as promised; (9) Deputy John Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) — The difficulties for licensed salespeople arising from the Minister for Agriculture and Food's order banning the sale of veterinary medicine to farmers from vans, from 1 December 1991; (10) Deputy Eamon Gilmore — The threat by the Allied Irish Banks and the Bank of Ireland to close all local authority accounts unless local authorities agree to pay bank charges.

The Ceann Comhairle has selected for discussion the matters raised by Deputies Charles Flanagan; John Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) and Seán Ryan.
