Vol. 414 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Sligo Group Water Schemes.

Edward Nealon

Question:

188 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline (1) the present position as regards the preparatory work for the Castleconnor group water scheme, County Sligo; (2) when he will give his sanction for this scheme to go to tender; (3) when work will commence; and (4) if, in view of the urgency of the situation and the availability of a costly although still greatly unused, source supply, he will give priority in funding from his Department.

Edward Nealon

Question:

191 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline (1) the estimated total cost of the Castleconnor group water scheme, County Sligo and (2) the number of houses or connections for which it will cater.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 188 and 191 together.

The group's proposal is to serve up to 300 households at an estimated cost of £1.25 million. Based on current membership, group water scheme grants are estimated at £322,100. While it would be possible to consider approving standard grants of £700 per house and £500 per farm, it would not be practicable for my Department to contribute further to this high unit-cost scheme in present budgetary circumstances.
