Vol. 414 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Government Contracts.

Nuala Fennell

Question:

1 Mrs. Fennell asked the Taoiseach if he will outline in relation to his Department (1) the number of Government contracts which are in force, (2) whether all contracts are renewed annually and (3) whether contracts are granted as a result of tendering to the most competitive estimate.

I propose to circulate in the Official Report the details requested by the Deputy.

Number of Government Contacts

Whether Renewed Annually

Whether contracts are granted as a result of tendering

Department of the Taoiseach

11

The general practice is to renew the contracts annually

Contracts are generally granted as a result of competitive tendering. However, the contracts for maintenance of office machinery and supply of computer software are normally granted to the company that supplies such machinery and computers.

Central Statistics Office

38

All contracts are renewed annually except for the computer equipment maintenance contract which is renewed every three years

Contracts are generally granted as a result of tendering with the exception of software licence wherecompetitive tendering applies only before the software is chosen. In the case of maintenance of office and printing equipment contracts the firm supplying the equipment is also awarded the contract for maintenance. A competition for minor ground maintenance contracts is held every three to four years.
