Vol. 414 No. 5

Written Answers. - Mobile Weighbridge Deployment.

Ivan Yates

Question:

79 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Justice if he will outline the use the specially constructed mobile weighbridges received in the last year to implement the regulations on laden weight for the haulage sector; and if he has satisfied himself that they operate on a continuous basis across the country; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that two mobile weighbridges are used in the enforcement of the maximum vehicle weight regulations. I am assured that these mobile weighbridges are allocated to particular Garda divisions from time to time as the need arises and are in addition to the network of 14 modern weighbridges at centres around the country which are under the direct control of the gardaí. The Garda authorities are very conscious of the need to ensure consistent enforcement of the law throughout the jurisdiction and this is borne in mind in the deployment of special mobile equipment in the traffic law area.
