Vol. 414 No. 5

Written Answers. - Land Registry Office.

Patrick McCartan

Question:

82 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for Justice the present status and operational condition of the Land Registry office for County Kilkenny; the advice which he has for people seeking copy folios and other documentation for County Kilkenny at the moment; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the county registrar for Kilkenny that the local Land Registry office has not been open to the public for the past number of years. All copy folios and other documentation are normally available from the Land Registry in Chancery Street, Dublin.

The management of the resources of the Circuit Court office is largely a matter for the county registrar and I understand that it was only with great reluctance that the local Land Registry office was closed to the public. I am given to understand that this action was taken principally in order to ensure that a full service could be made available in relation to court work, probate matters and the Sheriff's office.

I am arranging for a review of the staffing requirements in the county registrar's office to be carried out in the near future, with a view to having the local Land Registry office re-opened to the public as soon as possible.
