Séamus Pattison

Question:

72 Mr. Pattison asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the fact that the Department of the Environment now use recycled paper as an integral part of the administration of that Department, he will outline when he proposes to have all Departments, including the Houses of the Oireachtas, use recycled paper in the same manner; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

113 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance if he will give details of the total amount of recycled paper at present being used in (1) the Houses of the Oireachtas (2) Government Departments and (3) State bodies; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 52, 72 and 113 together.

The Government Supplies Agency holds stocks of different sorts of recycled paper based mainly on the annual requirements of the Department of the Environment. Small quantities of recycled paper from these stocks have been supplied on request to the Houses of the Oireachtas and for use in the Office of Public Works. Other Departments have been given samples of recycled paper for testing purposes.

The transfer of funding for stationery and printing from the Government Supplies Agency to individual Departments and offices from 1 January 1990 means in effect that the use of recycled paper is a matter for Departments and offices themselves with the agency responding to the requests it receives.
