Vol. 414 No. 6

Written Answers. - Inheritance Tax Thresholds.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

81 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance if he will outline his plans if any, to improve acquisitions or inheritance tax thresholds in 1992; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

This Government indexed the exemption thresholds for capital acquisitions tax in the 1990 Finance Act. This means that the thresholds are automatically improved annually in line with inflation. The Deputy will understand that any further revision of the current provisions of capital acquisitions tax is a matter for consideration by the Government in the context of next year's budget, and that it would not be appropriate for me to make any further announcement on this matter in advance of the budget.
