94 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Finance if he will list the occasions when the approval of his Department was required by the Department of Education so that funds could be provided for the purchase of property in the Higher Education Authority sector in (1) 1987 (2) 1988 (3) 1989 and (4) 1990; if approval was granted in each case; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Only once in the four years in question was the approval of the Minister for Finance required for the provision of Exchequer funds for the acquisition of property within the Higher Education Authority sector. This was in respect of the purchase of Carysfort College in 1990. The Minister for Finance approved the Exchequer expenditure involved in that purchase.
