Vol. 414 No. 6

Written Answers. - Surgery Delay.

Mary Flaherty

Question:

133 Miss Flaherty asked the Minister for Health the reason for the delay in providing surgery for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 11 who was injured in a traffic accident on 4 December and who, 24 hours later due to staff shortages, had still not been operated on and if additional staff will be provided in the hospital concerned to cope with such situation.

The person concerned was admitted to the Mater Hospital through the accident and emergency department as a result of a traffic accident on 4 December last. As is the case with all emergency admissions the patient was seen immediately. The consultant orthopaedic surgeon who assessed the person concerned decided that immediate surgery was inappropriate in this case.
