Question:

138 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline his plans to improve the safety standards on a national primary road (details supplied) in County Limerick; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 31 and 138 together.

The Croagh by-pass on National Primary Route N21 was completed in 1987 to full national primary road standards. It would be a matter for Limerick County Council to determine what action, if any, is called for in the light of the accident record on the road and, if necessary, to submit proposals in that regard to my Department. To date, no such proposal has been received.
