Question:

2 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the reason for the increase in the cost of a ten year passport to £45; and if he will give comparative figures for the other member states of the European Community.

The increase in the passport fee was decided on by the Government in the light of the current difficult budgetary situation.

The comparative figures for the other member states of the European Community are set out in the table below. The figures quoted (rounded to the nearest Irish pound) represent the cost to an adult of a standard passport valid for ten years.
