Vol. 415 No. 7

Written Answers. - Doctor Ratio.

Bernard Allen

Question:

102 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement on the recent survey carried out by the permanent working group of European junior hospital doctors which showed that Ireland had the lowest ratio of doctors per head of population in Europe in a survey carried out in 18 countries.

I am aware of the survey carried out by the permanent working group of European junior hospital doctors. A joint Department of Health-Comhairle na nOs pidéal group have been established to undertake a comprehensive study of medical manpower needs in the country. This group are due to report in about six months time. The report of the permanent working group of European junior hospital doctors is one of the documents being studied by the group.
