Vol. 415 No. 7

Written Answers. - Orthodontic Treatment.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

116 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Health if orthodontal treatment for which approval was given, will be carried out for a person (details supplied) in County Meath; and if not, the reason therefor.

Children are assessed and prioritised for orthodontic treatment in accordance with the severity of their orthodontic condition. The person referred to by the Deputy was assessed by the health boards dental service for the provision of orthodontic treatment and has been listed by the North-Eastern Health Board for the provision of such treatment. He has not been placed in the categories requiring most urgent attention. Treatment will be provided as soon as possible but the North-Eastern Health Board cannot as yet say when this will be.

The 1992 allocation to health boards includes a repeat of the special provision made in 1990 and 1991 to develop orthodontic services which will permit health boards to provide continuing orthodontic treatment for cases begun before 1992 and for new cases in 1992.
