Vol. 415 No. 7

Written Answers. - Use of Recycled Paper.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

125 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline (1) the quantity of recycled paper used in his Department in each of the last four years and (2) the increase/decrease in the use of these products; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Recycled paper was introduced on a trial basis in my Department in 1989. Its use has been extended over the last two years and my Department now has a policy of using recycled paper for all of its requirements, subject to the need to use up existing stocks of non-recycled paper. The quantity used, in term of single sheets, is as follows:

Year

Quantity

% Increase

1989

791,000

1990

930,000

18

1991

8,622,000

827

In addition, an increasing number of the Department's publications are now being printed on recycled paper.
