Vol. 415 No. 7

Written Answers. - Custom House Docks Area (Dublin) Works.

Ivor Callely

Question:

127 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the work, if any, that has been carried out under the urban renewal programme to the environs of the Custom House Docks area; if he will list (1) all the works carried out to this area since 1989 and (2) work which will be carried out in 1992; and if he will give details of the cost of these works.

In 1990 my Department paid urban renewal grants of £500,000 to Dublin Corporation towards a scheme of environmental improvement works designed to enhance the environs of the Custom House Docks area. This scheme related to Custom House Quay, Beresford Place, Store Street, Eden Quay and Lower Abbey Street and it entailed works such as widening of existing footpaths, elimination of car parking in selected areas, ornamental lamp standards, provision of street furniture, extension of quay wall, provision of trees and planting areas and reconstruction of traffic islands. In addition to these works, Dublin Corporation are carrying out a number of environmental improvements in the general vicinity of the Custom House Docks area from their own resources.

No provision has been made in my Department's Estimate in 1992 for urban renewal grants.
