153 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will outline the results of the pilot project involving the designation of environmentally sensitive areas for environmentally sensitive farming practices to be encouraged; and if he will now extend the pilot project.
Two areas were selected for designation as environmentally sensitive last year, one in the Slieve Blooms, Counties Laois-Offaly and the other at Slyne Head, County Galway. My Department are now finalising a suitable scheme with the EC Commission and applications for participation will be invited very soon. The extension of the scheme to other areas will be considered in the light of experience gained in these two areas.
