Vol. 415 No. 7

Written Answers. - Location of Central Statistics Office.

Gerry O'Sullivan

Question:

11 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Finance if any decision has been made regarding the location of the Central Statistics Offices in Cork city; if his attention has been drawn to the need to have such offices situated in the north side of the city in view of the fact that Cork Corporation have identified this area as one which needs urgent attention due to the high unemployment and that, in their current development plan, they have identified this area as suitable for a decentralised Government Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Tenders have been invited by the Commissioners of Public Works for the proposed offices to house the Central Statistics Office in Cork. Developers have been asked to prepare proposals for a number of privately owned sites in the centre of Cork city and for a site at Mahon being made available by Cork Corporation. The tenders are due on 28 February 1992 and a decision on the location of the new offices will not be taken until the tenders have been fully examined.
