Vol. 415 No. 7

Written Answers. - Blanchardstown (Dublin) Garda Station.

Austin Currie

Question:

46 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Justice whether, in view of the high crime rate in the area and the inadequacy of current accommodation at Blanchardstown, he has plans for a new Garda station in the Blanchardstown-Mulhuddart-Hartstown area; if so, the timescale involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Garda authorities inform me that the accommodation available at the present Garda station in Blanchardstown is not adequate to meet the long term needs of the Garda Síochána. The intention is to relocate the station on a site which would be more central to better meet the needs of the Blanchardstown Garda sub-district but it is not possible to indicate a timescale for the provision of the new station given that Blanchardstown is not among the stations listed in the Garda building programme which are to be replaced as a matter of priority.
