Written Answers. - Dublin School Facilities.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

74 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education if he will outline the number of pupils who will be seeking second level places in each of the next ten years, in the parishes of (1) Hartstown and (2) Huntstown, Dublin 15; if he will approve the provision of a secondary school at Hartstown; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

On the basis of current primary school enrolments and baptism statistics, the number of pupils from the parishes of Hartstown and Huntstown which it is anticipated will be seeking second level school places in each of the next ten years is as follows:

The availability of post-primary school places for pupils from the Castleknock/ Hartstown/Dunboyne areas has been under continuing review in my Department in the light of the most up-to-date data available on demographic trends, housing developments and primary school enrolments. In August last, an independent study of needs in the area was commissioned and the advice from the consultants has been fully considered, in conjunction with the information already available in the Department.
A decision has now been taken to provide a new post-primary school on the site already acquired for this purpose at Hartstown. It is hoped to have the initial phase of the building available for September 1992.
