Vol. 415 No. 7

Written Answers. - Appointment of Teacher.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

78 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education when a third teacher will be appointed to a school (details supplied) in County Kildare which has again achieved the number of pupils to warrant such an appointment; if he intends to approve this appointment in the near future; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The staffing of a national school is determined by the enrolment in the school on 30 September of the previous year. In the case of St. Brigid's national school, Ticknevin, there were 61 pupils enrolled on 30 September 1990, which warranted a staff of principal plus one assistant for the 1991-92 school year.

There were 65 pupils enrolled in the school on 30 September 1991, which will warrant a staff of principal plus two assistants for the 1992-93 school year. The appointment of an additional assistant to the school with effect from 1 September 1992, is subject to verification by my Department's inspector of the enrolment in the school on 30 September 1991.
