Vol. 416 No. 1

Written Answers. - Army Rations.

Liam Kavanagh

Question:

24 Mr. Kavanagh asked the Minister for Defence whether married personnel serving in Border units are required to pay for their rations; if so, the sums involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Married non-commissioned personnel of the Permanent Defence Force serving in Border units usually reside with their families outside barracks and make their own arrangements for meals. Such personnel may, however, opt to avail of ration facilities in barracks on a repayment basis. The daily charge for three full meals is £2.16.

Free rations are provided for married personnel living with their families where they are precluded by military duties from availing of meals at home.
