Vol. 416 No. 1

Written Answers. - Acceptance of Medals.

Séamus Pattison

Question:

83 Mr. Pattison asked the Minister for Defence if he will outline the policy in existence with regards to the acceptance of medals or decorations issued by other states to serving members of the Defence Forces with the exception of the United Nations Organisation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

From time to time proposals are received from foreign governments for the award of medals or decorations to individual members of the Defence Forces. These proposals are processed through the Department of Foreign Affairs. Since 1 January 1975 a total of 19 such proposals have been received and no objection was raised by my Department to any of the proposals.
