Vol. 416 No. 1

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Unit Funds.

Seán Ryan

Question:

108 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Defence if he will outline (1) the nature of the expenditure envisaged to be met from unit fund grant-in-aid for FCA and Slua Muirí sub-units; (2) the amounts allocated to units in the financial year 1991; (3) the manner in which funds can be demanded by superior organisations at unit and FCA command headquarters levels for such items as (a) stationery, (b) photocopying, (c) prizes and (d) additions to rations and (4) the amount expended which is certified non-reimbursable, and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Unit funds, which are established in each unit of An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil and An Slua Muirí, are composed mainly of grants from public funds and moneys transferred from the welfare fund of the unit concerned. The expenditure from unit funds is intended to meet such costs as fuel, light, cleaning of halls, postage, stationery and so on and to meet such other expenses as may be authorised by the officer commanding the command FCA in the case of the FCA and by the flag officer in the case of An Slua Muirí.

The amount of grant from public funds allocated to units in 1991 was £20,000.
