Vol. 416 No. 1

Written Answers. - Finglas (Dublin) Juvenile Detention Centre.

Nora Owen

Question:

130 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Education if he will outline the progress which has been made in the provision of a detention centre in Finglas, Dublin 11 for juvenile girls; and when he expects the facility to be opened.

The planning process for the new special centre for girls at Finglas is now at an advanced stage and it is expected that construction work will commence about the middle of this year. The facility is expected to become operational during 1993.

In the meantime, temporary accommodation for girls has been made available in the centre for young offenders at Oberstown, Lusk, County Dublin, which opened at the end of September.
