Vol. 416 No. 2

Written Answers. - Light Aircraft Safety Precautions.

Ivan Yates

Question:

129 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if she has satisfied herself in the light of the recent plane crash in County Wicklow, that there is adequate safety precautions taken for light aircraft operations in this State; and whether she has any proposals to review same.

The recent light aeroplane crash in County Wicklow is currently being investigated by the technical personnel of the air navigation services office of my Department.

The advancement of aviation safety is very much to the forefront during an accident investigation and any relevant safety proposals which may emerge as a result of this investigation will be implemented. The continuous monitoring of safety standards and precautions for all types of aircraft operations, including those of light aircraft, is the ongoing work and concern of the air navigation services office. There is a multiplicity of factors affecting aviation safety, any one of which may be reviewed and acted upon as the need arises.
