Vol. 416 No. 2

Written Answers. - Driving Tests.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

157 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for the Environment whether driving tests are held on Saturdays, in view of the enormous demand for these, due to workers being unable to take time off to undertake the test on weekdays; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As an exceptional measure, Saturday testing was conducted widely throughout the country up to the end of 1991 as part of the effort to reduce the backlog of applications. With the major reduction achieved in the backlog, such testing has now been discontinued for cost reasons and I have no proposals to reintroduce it.
