Written Answers. - Reclassification of Traffic Routes.

Question:

160 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give details of the criteria used for reclassification of traffic routes under the heading of national primary route.

The criteria for classification of national primary roads are that the roads must be long distance through routes, including those from major points of entry into the country; carry heavy traffic volumes; serve as connections between principal cities and large towns; serve major geographical regions; have continuity throughout their length and serve in aggregate a high percentage of the total population of the county.
