Vol. 416 No. 2

Written Answers. - Eligibility under SES.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

283 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Labour if he will clarify whether persons in receipt of invalidity pension qualify to be considered for jobs under the social employment scheme; and if so, whether they can retain any part of their invalidity pension as well as their pay under the social employment scheme.

The eligibility conditions for the social employment scheme specify that participants must be over 25 years of age and in receipt of either unemployment benefit for 12 months or unemployment assistance. Persons in receipt of invalidity pension, which I understand is payable where a person is permanently incapable of work, are not therefore eligible to participate.
